"The sex is in the heel" - Lola

I have a penchant for movies about transgenders, transvestites, and transsexuals perhaps from watching movies of Fefita Fofonggay in my formative years. The movies are not all entertaining or fun, some are tragic, like the Crying Game; but all of them memorable especially the ones with a great soundtrack, like Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

So I saw another movie last weekend, "Kinky Boots" which was based on a true story of a shoe factory that pulled itself up by its bootstraps by catering to a niche market, in the movie it was creating women's shoes for men who wear them, but reality was not as fantastic as the movie since the shoe factory catered to the sex industry.

Nevertheless, Lola, the drag queen portrayed by one of my fave actors, Chiwetel Ejiofor was marvelous! The only boots I have worn in my life were the black rubber galoshes in Manila and then I went on to owning a pair of 8-hole Doc Martens. Kinky boots are out of the question, they would not even get past my knees!

Huhh?!

Not fully awake but aware that my throat was dry and it felt sore, and that somewhere in my head was a small stirring, a headache set to bother me the whole day, I reached overhead for the alarm clock to check the time... HUHHHHH?! 9:00AM !!
(bloody hell, I am late!) -- I thought!

Then a giggle and..."Dooyoubi desu!" and more giggles, and I joined her as we laughed out loud in the futon... It's Saturday, what was I thinking?!

BUMOTO NA TAYO!

Hindi ako ang sumulat nito ha...

importante yung chutney o raita for a successful dinner

what i did was another version, diced fresh cucumber, chopped cilantro leaves,
salt and freshly ground black pepper

sarap!

Great recipe. Chicken tikka is my fave Indian food but I don't dare make it.
We have a really good place here to buy it ala turo-turo. Comes with raita
and naan. Easier when the cravings start.

yup it was a big success, nasundan ito ng Fish Masala (sa epicurious rin, substituted cocomilk with cow's milk, nagamit ko kasi sa lintik na laing last time)
however my partner is not really into Indian food that much, I was cooking for myself sa totoo lang
buti na lang she has taken a liking to raita.

grabe ang mahal nga lang lang ng basic ingredients dito sa Japan...
one bloody lime - US$1.50
fresh cilantro - about friggin 6 stems - $ 2.00

hayy, times like this make me miss my beloved Bangkok... I could buy one bilao each of those things

kanina naman I cooked kangkong sauteed in black beans - isang 1/4 tali ng kangkong, about 7 oh-so grateful if they are all leafy bunch - US$ 2.00
doing the grocery here for Southeast Asian home cooking is so surreal - always
I could imagine my mom's amazed reaction at the price of one piece of steroid-pumped tiger shrimp = US$1.00, on sale you can get it without the head US$0.50 -- di naman forzen pero nakababad sa tubig (tubig kaya yun?)

sorry for the rant... talagang frustrated lang ako pag dating dito

Nothing is Forever

Sayonara sakura, until we meet again next spring. The rains have already stripped most of the dainty blossoms off the black-brown branches and there are already sprouts of tiny green leaves all over the trees.
This morning on my way to work, at the park, after an early-morning downpour, the fallen petals formed a thick delicate pinkish-white carpet for me to walk on and it was quite an awesome experience. Soon, the hurried footsteps of officeworkers like myself emerging from the subway will churn up mud and petals, leaving leather shoes smugded with a remembrance of ohanami. It may be noticed but most likely be wiped off.

Ohanami!

Saturday was cloudy, the sakura trees at the park nearby were in full bloom, time for a good lunch under the trees! We first trooped to the nearby "fridge" (a 5 minute walk to the supermarket) to get food and cold beer. Then off we went to look for a good place to eat. Of course it was difficult since some people have staked out the choice spots as early as yesterday! One might see suit-clad youngsters in the weekend
staking out choice spots. The office newbies are usually assigned this job and all they have to do is to make sure that they get a great spot for the whole section to party after office hours. Of course they have to stay there all day to guard it!

So far wala pa naman nababalitaan na nag-saksakan, barilan o patayan dahil sa sakura. Buti na rin lang walang sakura sa Pinas ano?!

We found one bench smack under a tree heavy with blossoms, BUT there was a pesky flock of pigeons above so we had to move away, the birds won. A few more minutes, another bench, minus the birds but a group of smokers infront of us. Hmmm, we stood our ground, they would not be smoking always we reckon. Besides they also have cute dogs. On our right were a group of Japanese and Thai, and the smell of Tom Yum simmering away in a camp burner just made hungry again!
