Springtime is here, the lanterns are up at the park for o-hanami (sakura-viewing at night or viewing and binge drinking that starts at high noon), and surprisingly, I've only had a few severe bouts with hay fever, so far.
I walk through a park to get to the subway everyday and the sakura buds are quite fat and ready to burst. Imagine popcorn on tree branches, although they're the most delicate color of whitish-pink you'd ever seen. The official (yes, this is a serious matter here) forecast for sakura to bloom in Tokyo is March 23!
Malamig pa rin sa gabi, and it's so tempting to go for a bowl of hot and steaming ramen and a chilled mug of beer. When in Tokyo, slurp as they do; and slurp I did. Japanese know how to serve and drink beer - in a chilled mug and chilled beer - no ice (of course!). This reminds me of a joke about "salariman" (typical male office worker) --- How do you describe a "salariman"? Oh, he's hard working, always putting in a lot of overtime, and goes home really late to a warm beer and a cold family. Kanpai!
